Hibikimasu was a sumo wrestler born in Oshino Village in 1859 (birth name, Ichitaro Shimizu). He was 180 cm tall and weighed 135 kg. With his well-built body, he was a strong and skilled athlete who attained the rank of Sekiwake in 1892. He retired from sumo in 1899 and died of disease four years later at the young age of just 38. After his death, fire fighters and other volunteers in Oshino Village built a monument to him at Takami-Musubi Shrine. Because the monument was damaged by wind and storm over the years, a new monument was erected next to the original one in 1972.
